The importance of prayer in discipleship is massive! So, why should we be praying for those we disciple, and what should we be praying for? We talk a lot about intentionally sharing Christ with those God has placed in our lives, whether our children, our friends, our neighbors, or those we are discipling. But ultimately, it is God who changes and works in our hearts to believe and to be transformed into the likeness of Christ. It is our job to share faithfully, but the Spirit must do the work to change the hearts of others.
According to Robert Soverall (2017), the Bible teaches that the Christian’s life is like a sweet-smelling fragrance to God. Jesus was accepted by the Father because of His successful and sacrificial life on Earth. When we emulate Christ, we smell sweet to the Father. Worship is a part of that sweet-smelling life and when the sacrifices of a contrite heart and a broken spirit are laid before the altar, the Holy Spirit blesses them and us. That sweet odor then rises to the throne room where God resides.
Evangelism is simply announcing the good news, whereas discipleship/ disciple-making involves a maturing process. Discipleship Vs. Evangelism: How They Differ & Are Similar

Discipleship and evangelism are both Biblical concepts. They differ because they focus on different levels of spiritual growth. Both discipleship and evangelism spread the Gospel of Christ. Evangelism is typically used with unbelievers, while discipleship is used for both unbelievers and the development of believers. Discipleship involves a long-term interaction with another individual, whereas evangelism is short-term. Discipleship is much more relational and personal. Evangelism can be personal, but not to the extent of discipleship. Evangelism is a means that leads to discipleship. Discipleship is the overall goal.
WHY WE BAPTIZE IN JESUS NAME
**It is important to understand how money affects discipleship. Being a disciple has always meant being a better manager. According to Church Growth Services Generosity Consultants, it is estimated that 59% of churches have declining or flat-lined giving. God has a plan for how you manage ALL your money, not just the giving part. Here’s how Jesus looked at the situation. He declared, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). Two back-to-back stories in Luke make an irrefutable case. In the contrasting attitude toward wealth between the rich young ruler (Luke 18:18–23) and Zaccheus (Luke 19:1–10), you will discover one hallmark that distinguishes the disciples of Jesus. Disciples see themselves as stewards, not owners.

DISCIPLESHIP VS. LEADERSHIP

The question goes something like this: “Is there a difference between discipleship and leadership?” One simple distinction is that discipleship focuses on following and leadership focuses on influencing. This to is too simplistic of course; because a leader, the best leaders, follow Jesus. At the same time a disciple shifts their behavior when they lead and intentionally influence others.
DISCIPLESHIP FOR CHURCH MEMBERSHIP “WHERE DO I FIT” Matthew 16:24 says, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Being a church member is not necessarily the same thing as being a Christian disciple. The shift process takes this emphasis into account by challenging the 21st century church to move from the idea of church membership to Christian discipleship. We don’t need more members, we need more disciples who are responding to the call of God into the world. As we move the emphasis from “member” to “disciple” in our churches, we open our congregations and ourselves to new ways of being on mission for God in the world today. We are no longer simply voluntary members of an organization, but an essential part of the Body of Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:17. Praying continually is a constant awareness of and interaction with the presence of God. However, in addition to this perpetual God consciousness, we also need to set aside times each day to that we will specifically devote to prayer.
Spiritual growth also requires a commitment to studying God’s word. We come to a greater understanding of the heart and will of God, with the help of the Holy Spirit, by studying the word of God. More than simply reading, studying the Word attempts to go deeper than a surface understanding. Most importantly all our spiritual growth efforts will be in vain without the Holy Spirit. To grow spiritually, we must seek, listen, and submit to the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Only the Holy Spirit can empower our prayers, give us understanding of God’s word, and enable us to live according to God’s will.
